I enjoyed hearing the Dean McCauley's fireside chat about the nursing profession and the future of healthcare. The Institute of Medicine suggest nursing is the ideal profession to promote and enhance a better healthcare system. Dean McCauley emphasized the need for nurses to stop playing the victim, and be a driving force in an interdisciplinary world. She advised to join non-nursing boards, and be ready to advance the nursing agenda.

I am inspired by Dean McCauley's message, "Look out, not in". Nurses need to embrace change at every turn in order to transform health. As a leader in healthcare, my goal is to empower nurses to embrace positive change for the betterment of the patient. Collaboration with many professionals, whether they are trained in medicine or business, will lead to a better health system with less waste, improved outcomes, and amazing customer satisfaction. Gone are the days that nurses rely on other medical professionals to provide the change needed. Nurses are the change needed to transform health as the most dedicated PATIENT ADVOCATE! Essential VI.
